Golf: Kiwi Cusdin leads NZ Open

Waikato pro Jim Cusdin leads the New Zealand Golf open midway through his opening round at the Clearwater Golf Club near Christchurch.

Cusdin sits at five-under through 11 holes and leads second placed Australian Brad Kennedy by one shot.

Kennedy is the clubhouse leader after firing an opening round 68. New Zealand's Doug Holloway is a further shot back, along with Australian Leigh McKechnie, at three under after carding a 69.

Former winner Mahal Pearce is just three shots off the pace at two-under in a six way share of fifth place that includes Australian Craig Parry.

Josh Geary and Steve Alker are a further shot back at one-under while Ryan Fox is the leading amateur after carding an even round 72.

Former US Open winner Michael Campbell had a mixed round finishing at five over for the opening day in a share of 112th place.
