Wests Rugby Club members and supporters will gather in the clubrooms on Saturday to watch the All Black versus France game on a big, new flat-screen television.
The 50-inch TV is one of two (the other a 32-inch) purchased by the club and connected up to a DVD sound system. Apart from World Cup games they will be utilised for playing back club games and training videos.
Working with a budget of about $10,000 the club is refurbishing the clubrooms, purchased from the Excelsior Rugby Club in 1998, as a winter-summer 2011-12 project.
Old cracked vinyl chairs have been recovered with soft furnishing material, and tables have been given a facelift.
Club member Dicey Davidson has had team photos re-framed with a new, modern look.
“The next step will be painting out the building,” club president Jenny Keogan said.
Wests has a healthy membership of 140-plus and is proud to claim to be the only West Coast rugby club to field a team in every grade.
“We have the strongest JAB under-18 to under-6, and a very active and committed executive working towards getting some of that good old-fashioned spirit back into the place,” Ms Keogan said.
