The Otago Volts' momentum in the Ford Trophy one-day competition hit a road bump in Rangiora today after their match against the Canterbury Wizards was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Overnight rain in Canterbury saturated the ground at Mainpower Oval, and while conditions improved this morning, moisture had seeped under the covers and the umpires decided ground conditions were unsuitable for play, Radio Sport reports.
The abandonment is a blow for the Volts, who lead the competition with nine points, having won two from two before today. Both the Volts and the Wizards will take two points from today.
Today's other two matches - Central Stags v Wellington Firebirds and Northern Knights v Auckland Aces - have started on time.
