Australia will chase 241 runs to win the second cricket test against New Zealand after paceman James Pattinson removed skipper Ross Taylor and belligerent batsman Dean Brownlie to give the hosts the upper hand.

The Black Caps were dismissed for 226 moments before lunch on day three, setting Australia a challenging but achievable target to complete a 2-0 series win.

Pattinson, Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon picked up three wickets apiece as the New Zealand lower-order crumbled.
