Emmabeth Jensen (Waves) continued her domination of South Island swimming when she won nine events at the Aquagym Challenge swimming carnival at Moana Pool at the weekend.

Jensen (15), a pupil at Columba College, came to Dunedin to train with Andy Adair's Waves squad when her coach, Paul Staight, lost the contract to coach at his pool in Adelaide.

Staight is now coaching at another pool and Jensen will return to her parents in Adelaide at the end of the school year.

She has won a bagful of medals at major meets since coming to Dunedin - six at the New Zealand short-course championships in Wellington and nine at the weekend.

Adair has persuaded her to return to New Zealand for the national age-group and open championships and hopes the New Zealand selectors will add her into the New Zealand system before she is nabbed by Australia.

Her two best wins last weekend were the girls aged 14 and 15 100m freestyle (1min 00.03sec) and 100m butterfly (1min 08.53sec).

The Aquagym club brought the meeting to Dunedin because of the Christchurch earthquake and it was well supported by Dunedin swimmers from the Waves club and Gennadiy Labara's Osca training squad.

Phoebe O'Leary (Waves) won the senior women's 200m butterfly (2min 32.02sec) and 400m individual medley (5min 17.66sec).

Troy Balvert (Waves) won the men's 400m freestyle (4min 15.89sec) and 1500m freestyle (16min 40.04sec).

Caitlin Deans (Waves) won three events in the girls aged 11 and under grade but her best performance came in the women's open 800m: sixth in 10min 32.01sec, an Otago age-group record by 10.67sec.

Kurt Crosland (Neptune) won seven events in the open men's grade with his best performance being in the 50m butterfly (26.70sec).

Matthew Glassford (Neptune) won five senior men's events, doing best in the 100m breaststroke (1min 8.50sec) and 200m freestyle (2min 13,19sec).

Kate Godfrey (Neptune) won four open women's titles and was best in the 100m backstroke (1min 6.21sec).

Jeremy Hopkins (Neptune) won five titles in the boys aged 12 and 13 grade, but his best effort was in the 100m butterfly when he finished second in 1min 9.80sec. It was a personal-best time by 8.70sec.

Victoria Clarke (Taieri) won four events but her most significant race was in the girls aged 12 and 13 200m breaststroke, when she came second in 3min 15.02sec, a personal-best time by 8.17sec.

Han Zhang (Neptune) won five events in the boys aged 12 and 13 grade. His best performance was in the 200m backstroke with 2min 36.21sec. It was a personal-best time by a massive 24.93sec.
