Flanker Schalk Burger has been named South Africa rugby player of the year for the second time.
Burger, who also received the honor in 2004, was chosen on Thursday for his outstanding form for the Stormers in the Super 15 then the Springboks, for whom he came back from a thumb injury to represent in the World Cup in New Zealand.
Springboks fullback Pat Lambie was named young player of the year, and former All Blacks coach John Mitchell was given the coach award for leading the Golden Lions to their first Currie Cup title since 1999.
