Addington streaker's mum says give daughter a break

The mother of Cup Day streaker Hayley Scheerhoorn is questioning why her daughter is being charged when disgraced All Black Zac Guildford isn't.

The 32-year-old interior designer captured world wide attention when she jumped the fence at Addington Raceway and ran onto the track lifting up her dress and flashing her breasts last Tuesday.

She has been charged with disorderly behaviour but was granted a registrar's remand on bail at the Christchurch District Court, held Nga Hau e Wha marae, on Monday, to reappear on November 25, allowing her time to apply for diversion.

Picton-raised Scheerhoorn - who lived in Hamilton and Auckland before opening her interior design business Niche Designs in Christchurch this year - did not return calls to The Star.

But her mother, Kerry Scheerhoorn, said she could not understand why her daughter had been charged and was not upset by her actions.

"She hasn't harmed anybody. I feel more about the guy in Rarotonga, the All Black. Doesn't seem like he's going to be charged. I don't see why they're making an example of Hayley. Let's face it, she's got a great body,'' she said.

Guildford, 22, has been accused of drunken naked assaults during an apparent alcoholic bender in Rarotonga. Cook Islands police have not laid charges.

Mrs Scheerhoorn, felt Guildford's behaviour lent itself to charges more than what her daughter did.

She said she could also not understand all the continued fuss over her daughter's streak.

"It was over a week ago, lets get on with it. The family are just carrying on,'' Mrs Scheerhoorn said.

Police are also investigating allegations that an accredited photographer had encouraged Scheerhoorn to enter the track.
