Australia A have been bowled out for 395 by New Zealand in their four-day game in Brisbane on Saturday after opener Ed Cowan posted an epic 145.

Tea was called on day three after Australia A's first innings was completed when Michael Beer was caught behind off Doug Bracewell (4-87) for a duck.

The innings was built around Cowan's 270-ball knock that lasted more than seven hours and included 25 fours.

Cowan, who resumed at 60 not out on Saturday, shared a 150-run fifth-wicket stand with wicketkeeper Matt Wade (53).

But it was not enough to earn a Test nod - the vacant opener's position went to his Australia A teammate David Warner when the team for next week's Gabba Test was named on Saturday.

New Zealand made 423 in their first dig.
