In a worry for national selectors, Australia A's bowlers copped another battering before New Zealand were finally dismissed for 423 in Brisbane on Friday.

At least one speedster from the Australia A side is expected to be considered for next week's first Test at the Gabba after Shane Watson, Pat Cummins, Ryan Harris, Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Marsh were all ruled out on Friday.

But there are slim pickings on offer in Brisbane after all quicks copped some stick as New Zealand belted 133 in the morning session before the last Kiwi wicket fell on the stroke of lunch on day two of the four day match.

Doug Bracewell - who bowled New Zealand to their last Test win over Zimbabwe recently - was the standout with the bat.

Picking up where Brendon McCullum (146 off 115 balls) left off on Thursday, Bracewell was 73 not out off 79 balls after thrashing nine fours and four sixes.

James Pattinson (4-96 off 19 overs) was the best on paper while left-arm quick Mitchell Starc claimed 3-88 off 17.

Sheffield Shield's form bowler Ben Cutting (1-89 off 19) was on the receiving end of some of Bracewell's more brutal hits - including consecutive sixes in one over.

An unlucky Ben Hilfenhaus finished with 1-86 off 18.

Starc struck soon after New Zealand resumed on day two at 4-290.

He dismissed Perth-born Dean Brownlie (26), ending a 47-run fifth wicket stand with Ross Taylor.

Starc then had captain Taylor caught behind for 57 and keeper Reece Young was run out for seven and suddenly the Black Caps were 7-329.

Pattinson bowled Tim Southee (16) and had Trent Boult (15) caught behind but Bracewell kept the tail wagging
