Otago rugby representative Jayden Spence and women's footballer Chelsea Martin were joint winners of this year's Otago Institute of Sport and Adventure top award.
They were honoured at the Otago Polytechnic department's awards ceremony this week.
Spence, who grew up in Alexandra, made his debut for the Otago ITM Cup team this winter and impressed as a midfield back of promise.
He played for the Otago under-19 team last year and was named as a non-travelling reserve for the New Zealand under-20 team this year.
Spence, who plays for the Kaikorai club, is one of the home-grown players who made a promising start for Otago in his first representative season and has been contracted to the Otago Rugby Football Union for the next two years.
Martin is the captain of the Footballsouth team which plays in the national women's league.
She also played for the Roslyn-Wakari women's team which won the Dunedin competition.
Nicole Ross was named as the Otago Institute of Sport and Adventure's ambassador.
She has been involved in organising and running Otago secondary school sporting events this year. This has included the weekly tennis competition, the Otago netball championships and the Otago and Southland athletics meeting.
