By Viv Logie

Greymouth High School student Hayley Gurden, 15, proudly shows off the award she won at the recent 2011 Sparc Volunteer Awards, in Christchurch.
Hayley won the student category for coaching a Cobden netball Future Ferns team, and her efforts as a swim coach in which she coaches 20 children three nights a week.
Hayley was nominated for the awards by Valma Glover, a parent of one of her Future Ferns players.
Miss Glover said Hayley’s team thought she was great because she gave up her own free time, expertise and experience to train them.
Hayley’s prizes consisted of a framed winner’s certificate, a Rebel Sports voucher and a gift pack of Watties product.
Another Greymouth student, Brittany Lankshear, was a finalist in the same category, and Margaret Swinburn from the Greymouth Athletic Club shared the lifetime volunteer award.
Margaret Crawford was also a finalist in the general section for work as a swimming coach and hockey manager.
