Cronulla are poised to announce the signing of controversial NRL playmaker Todd Carney.

Carney has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the Sharks, who will become his third NRL club after he was let go by both Canberra and the Sydney Roosters in the wake of off-field disciplinary issues.

The club and Carney were waiting to meet with NRL chief David Gallop as a matter of courtesy before confirming the signing, according to the Daily Telegraph website.

Despite his off-field issues, usually linked to alcohol, 2010 Dally M medal winner Carney attracted the interest of a handful of clubs, including Gold Coast who offered a three-year deal.

But the Sharks are believed to have secured his signature with a deal worth $AU700,000.
