Forbury posts loss

The Forbury Park Trotting Club has posted a loss of $144,585 for the year after allowing $119,725 for depreciation.

This compared with a loss of $186,471 (depreciation $117,859) last year.

The club posted a profit of $325,610 on racing after staging 23 meetings during the season.

General income was down $262,371. The club had a realised gain on land sales last year of $158,334.

Overhead expenses were down $301,724. It cost the club $181,403 to demolish the stewards' stand last year. There was an item of bad debts of $17,025.

Repairs and maintenance dropped $89,691 to $68,388.

Stephen Cairns, the chairman of the board of management, said several debtor issues in respect of the tavern were in the hands of Downie Stewart in respect of recoveries.

"The club has been successful in overcoming challenges in the past and while there are challenges ahead, I can see nothing but a positive outlook," Alan Clyma, the retiring president, said.

Telemecanique is on her way back to New Zealand after racing in the United States. It is intended that she rejoin the Burnham stable of Mark Jones.

"She has gone into quarantine and hopefully she will have another racing season in New Zealand before going to stud," Jones said.

"She has won five races and gone 1.52 in America."
