Hayden Roulston is expecting the usual attention that goes with donning a yellow jersey in a cycle race.
Roulston's Calder-Stewart team has won the opening time trial on the Tour of Southland as he aims for a fifth title.
He says he's always subject to gamesmanship from the field.
Roulston says he's always marked regardless of the jersey he's wearing.
He says keeping hold of the leader's jumper isn't a priority in the bigger scheme of things.
Roulston says while his team were favourites on paper, they delivered the perfect start.
Roulston won't he disappointed to lose the yellow jersey at some stage as he's confident his team can up the ante later if need be.
The official stage one starts at 10am with a 160km ride from Invercargill to Lumsden.
