Sunday night's Rugby World Cup final was the most-watched television event ever in New Zealand.
TVNZ released figures today showing 2,036,900 people tuned in to TV1, TV3, Sky TV and Maori TV for the All Blacks v France final, which New Zealand won 8-7.
The October 16 semifinal between All Blacks and Australia, won by the All Blacks 20-6, was the second-most-viewed event, with an audience of 2,024,000.
The tournaments opening game between the All Blacks and Tonga attracted 1,930,000 viewers.
Previous to the RWC, the most-watched event was the David Tua v Lennox Lewis boxing match in 2000, with 1,841,230 viewers and a One News special on Princess Diana's death, with 1,703,130.
The figures include all people aged over 5.
