An 11-year-old Dunedin girl helped reclaim a BMX trophy from the Australians last weekend.
Kaikorai Primary School pupil Jordan Donaldson captained the New Zealand Mighty XI girls team over two days of transtasman racing in Gisborne.
The Mighty XI is a twice-yearly race between New Zealand and Australian riders.
All riders have to be aged 11 on race day.
The New Zealand girls' team lost the Troy Fisher trophy in the first Sydney test in June but lifted it last weekend after a 98-91 win, in Gisborne.
"It was pretty tight," Jordan's father, Greg Donaldson, said.
Jordan finished with 36 points from her seven races.
She had the most points from the New Zealand team of three, which also included Lisa Roguski, from Tauranga, and MacKenzie Roberts-Craig, from Auckland.
More than 400 riders competed at the tournament.
The competition was a family affair, as Jordan's younger brother Oliver finished third in the 9-year boys.
"That's the best result from a Dunedin boy for years," Greg Donaldson said.
Oliver was focused on the South Island BMX titles to be held in Invercargill in February, his father said.
The goal for Jordan was to keep her No 1 ranking and to finish in the top eight at the 2013 world championships, to be held in Auckland.
