New Zealand runner Kimberley Smith broke her own race record by 14 seconds in winning the Hartford half marathon in Connecticut.
Smith finished sixth in a time of 1 hour 11 minutes 18 seconds, nearly nine minutes ahead of the next woman Jodie Conway of Massachusetts. Her performance was more impressive considering she was using it as a training run for the New York Marathon on November 6.
"It's nice and hilly, a good simulation run for New York.''
Last month she ran the fastest half marathon by a woman on US soil, winning the Philadelphia event in 1:7:11.
